How much do you charge?

From $1.5 to 2.0 per page. The price will increase if the manga is unusually wordy or if it will require additional image editing due to text style (text directly on image). The full cost of translation must be paid before I begin working on it. Larger works can be broken into parts and worked on separately if you prefer.

Transactions will be done via paypal.

What do you translate?

Japanese to English for manga. I mostly get commission requests for adult content, though.

How long do you take?

Depends. If it's a short chapter, I can get it done in a day or two if there aren't anything else in my backlog.

Tuesday 15 December 2009

So I was involved in a road accident

Just a couple of hours ago, I was driving around with a friend of mine, and my sedan was hit by a speeding incoming bike that came out of nowhere as I made a turn. The left back section of my car was crushed. It was so bad, the wheel rim was bent out of shape and the car couldn't move at all. The impact had also sent the biker flying, and (from what I heard) broke his leg in the process. The guy's bike was totally thrashed as well.

For the first time in my life, I feel genuinely scared. My heart was racing when I went over and saw the biker writhing in pain, and I pretty much went unconscious and fainted with all the possible outcome (mostly bad ones) of this accident flashing in my head.

Had the car towed away, made a police report, though from what I noticed, the situation doesn't look good for me. Even the sergeant muttered that I was the one at fault in this accident (this is my first major accident in my 4+ years of driving), though I sure hope it doesn't turn out that way.  I swear, the guy appeared out of nowhere and rammed into us.

I'm crossing my fingers real hard and touching insane amount of wood right now (oh god oh god please don't let it end with me getting arrested or fined a ridiculous amount of money, or even both). Here's to hoping everything goes well in the end. I can't thank my friends (you know who you are) and my parents enough for the support and words of encouragement. I was genuinely freaked out when it all happened, I couldn't even think straight. In fact, I think I experienced PTSD just a few moments ago. I couldn't stop crying and feel real shitty, and I wasn't sure why.

I guess this is what it means to be human.

*I'm not even sure if I should write about things like this on the site, but I really had to let it out.

*update 17th Dec: turns out the guy's leg wasn't broken after all. His leg was twisted though (but I guess that's better than having a broken leg, right, right?). Also, thank god I (or rather, my car) was covered by insurance, and they're gonna have an attorney to represent me if it ever ends that way. The car's gonna be out of commission for one whole month, though.  Now I'm waiting for the police's investigation to see who was at fault in the accident D:

  1. Too many reckless drivers out there. Most of em just speed into shit, get injured, then push the blame on others. Sad part is, they gets away most of the time. Most witness don't even want to get involved so they pretend they never saw anything.

  2. Yo, don't worry about post this, we all went through this shit at one point of our lives.

It does really suck though, since generally as a rule- if you are turning, no matter how much you are "not at fault", it will be your fault from the law's stand point.

This is why the law sucks, the law does not provide justice.
    But anyways, keep at it.

  3. I understand your feeling back there, there was times when I suddenly must held such an irrasional responsibilities. I just fall down, scared and hoping and hoping and hoping.

But, you're right about support from your surroundings, that's when we realize how important them to us, and how important us for them xD

Don't lose hope desu, there are always ways for those who seek :)
time after time, this incident would be your laugh subject with your friends (hopefully) and nice experience.

Good luck and keep posting OK xD

  4. How would it be your fault if you were hit on the back section of your car? You can't have seen THAT coming.

    ReplyDelete
  5. Laws in where I live essentially put the blame on the vehicle with more wheels, regardless of fault. That's pretty shitty. Hang in there.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Good Luck Desu, I'm not surprised it was a biker, they are among the most reckless drivers you can get full stop.

I am really surprised if the police took it as your fault straight off the bat. Most people on bikes seem to think their safety's everyone else but their own.

Don't feel down for it either. Unlike a a lot of crashes, this one was NOT lethal.

    ReplyDelete
  7. The good thing is that you're injury free.

I hope you'll get things cleared up with the law.

    ReplyDelete
  8. oh no! what happened? hope you're ok. (people who rides on motors/bikes on roads has 10% chance of death) and prone to accidents.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Hmmm...this is strange...when my mother hit an old woman who turned in front of her some number of years back, SHE was the one the law said was at fault, not the old woman (she was going the speed limit, the old woman turned very
slowly), merely because she happened to hit the back of the old woman's car. Generally, rear-ending=your fault, not the fault of the car that was rear-ended, regardless of why it happened.

In the college town where I live, generally the less wheels=less blame things doesn't apply to motorcycles (it applies to semis and bicycles, though).

    ReplyDelete
  10. Sorry to hear about that. Best of luck to you as far as insurance and the law goes, and I hope you feel better soon.

Out of curiousity, were you making a left-hand turn or right-hand turn? I assume the motorcycle came from the incoming intersecting road that was on your left from your original position, and I could see how either would result in him hitting the rear left side of your vehicle.

  11. Where are the downlaod links dude?

    ReplyDelete
  12. In my country the person at fault is the one who hits you. Its stupid to for the cops to assume (and I know really good cops so don't say that I've got beef against them) that you were at fault. I wish the biker dude had died and snapped his neck instead of his legs for being an idiot. At least you're alive bro, hopefully you can settle things out of court or your judge has half a brain. On rare occasions they do.

Question, was the biker person on drugs? Alcohol? If he was under the influence of those things might just turn in your favor.

Wishing you well. You have my prayers.

    ReplyDelete
  13. It's your first major traffic incident, so even if you get stuck, it shouldn't be *too* bad.

Besides, it's not like anyone was killed and it sounds like the guy rear-ended *you*. You might see an uphike in auto insurance, unfortunately, but I don't see this turning into a legal disaster for you.

  14. Sorry to hear about your car accident. Hope that everything is ok with you.
Cheer up Desu. Tomorrow is a new day, the sun will rise, and everything will start to look better. I am sure that no one is going to be arrested , because of a car accident that caused a broken leg.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Maybe it sounds a bit insensitive to say this, but at least the motorcyclist isn't dead. So I guess you can take solace that you don't have blood on your hand. But yeah, having an accident can be pretty shocking. I remember when I got into my first real accident, but it was a relatively minor one.

Personally I hate motorcyclists who speed, especially around the corners with no regards to everyone else. But the law is usually on their side since they're more vulnerable to accidents...even when they're in the wrong. But at least you're okay and your family has your back.

As for getting fined, it shouldn't be too bad...especially if you're Malaysian. After I filled out my police report last time, the police head said to me and the other accident victims that we could return another day to pay a 'discounted fine' to him personally to close the matter. No need to guess what he was hinting at.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Yes, bikers are really reckless, I was the same.

But he just brocke a leg, it could be worse. Maybe you will lose your lisence and have to pay a fine, but i've never heard about going to the jail because of that.

I hope for you everything turns out right.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Real sorry to hear about your accident. Try to take it one step at a time to get back from this. Hope you feel better soon, sucks being depressed =/
    Wish you all the best.

  19. dunno if this help but here,

i was used to be/maybe still be one of that reckless driver (on bike). sometimes bikers (maybe just in my country) ignore turning sign lamp/side lighting (dunno what you called that) and try to "slip" in.

once when i try to overtake a car from the rightside, i crashed on rightside of cars rear bumpers where the car actually already properly try to turn right (definitely my bad, i honestly see the the sidelighting/signlamp/thatYellowBlinkingLamp a little to late). in result i fell down skin my knee despite my thick still kinda new long jeans.

despite my wound that kinda bleeds and hurt a lot after quite a while, all the thing in my mind was "OH CRAP!" "THAT WAS MY FAULT, if I get fined or they ask for compensation... THAT WOULD BAD REAL BAD". the adrenaline rush and that realization scared the crap out of me (not literally tough, still in control of my bladder).

so yeah i've kinda felt or experience what you've experience. and for and advice from my own experience as the biker on fault. maybe it's not your fault, sometimes THEY do tend to be reckless. on other time in my other accident (i've only 2 accident in my 5 years driving bike) in EMPTY road , already check the rearmirror. only one bike behind me in kinda far/safe distance, already turn on my turning light, where i actually already slow down get to the middle of the road and try to turn right to go to Gas Station and THERE that the only bike in the road (at least 2~3 kilometer radius) hit me... so YEAH that was the other biker fault. they acknowledge it and actually pays for my headlamp (only that part, but the rest of the part was not that expensive compared to headlight) no cops involved tough.

so despite on the final result (one hospital/totaled and one didn't) there is always a chance that is not your fault maybe it was their responsibility to be tended in hospital/totaled for their reckless driving.

sorry for the tl;dr. just sharing things that might help.

  20. Sorry to hear about the accident. I hope you start feeling better soon.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I wish everything turns out best for you. At least you're not hurt or something, right?

    ReplyDelete
  22. If he hit you anywhere near the back of the car and you were performing a legal left turn after registering that you had enough time to make that turn and in no way were under the influence of any drugs or alcohol then there's no fault that could be put on you. Even in the case of the aforementioned slow turn from the old lady(Annoying, I know.) it was the driver's job to slow while that turn was in progress. Best of luck though, no way should this be your fault.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Make sure you don't tell anyone anything that might make it so you seem at fault. When they ask you questions, make sure to only say things that make it ABSOLUTELY 100% his fault. I know it sounds awful, but if you aren't completely sure, he will be. And then you lose and get in trouble.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I'm very sorry to hear about your accident, DesuDesu. I'm glad no one was seriously injured, material things can be repaired or replaced and don't believe there will be serious consequences for you over what you are describing. In my many years of driving I've had more than a few accidents, one serious and almost killed, you're lucky to walk away.
We're there for you if you need support or encouragement, you've been there for us.

  25. Life is a b*tch, friend...But I am happy that you are not hurt from the accident and still have all your appendages...

I hope you get out with your wallet intact and the guy at fault won't press charges at you...

Life is already unfair as it is with idiots running around...

    ReplyDelete
  26. It's not a big deal, bro

Yeah, I know that doesn't help, but statistically, everyone is in an accident at least once in their life

At least your car wasn't fucked beyond repair like my mom's. The entire front side was fucked over, and smoke was coming out when it happened. It'll pass over, and I DOUBT you'll go to jail over a car accident. Now if you were under the influence of drugs or INTENTIONALLY trying to run someone over, I'll pray for you. Otherwise, you're fine.

Trust me, it's not that big a deal.

    ReplyDelete
  27. PS. I fucking hate bikers god damn it

    ReplyDelete
  28. Good luck man, the left back section of your car? So basically you ere hit from behind while making a turn? In almost all cases the fault would be on the person who hit you from behind. Just let your insurance take care of everything and like someone said just take it one step at time. Don't worry you won't be arrested. For your PTSD talk it out with a family member and get all your anxieties off your chest, if worst comes to worst medication can help. Good luck man and keep us updated on the situation.

    ReplyDelete
  29. @Shake once on a rainy day some douche on a Harley ran me off the rode because the retarded didn't look around when he was changing lanes. You'd think bikers would be more cautious.

    ReplyDelete
  30. You got insurance? You're probably fine.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Don't worry. We all pass through things like this once in a while. It let us grow as humans.

But jeez, no matter how I see it, the biker is at fault. Guess it's the same in all countries. Blame the car. The pedestrian who crossed when the light was red or the cyclist who was racing against you are innocent.

Be patient. This will solve and you'll be laughing about this incident in a few years. Be strong and don't crumble.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Hang in there Desu, I hope everything turns out fine, and just remember, despite you doing /d/ stuff and all that, we still support each others...

  34. I live in canada and have persoanly served accident papers like statment of claims.

Here are some good ground rules to fallow
    1 Get a Lawyer
Reason being you might have limted time(Where ever you live) to file for injurys and time senstive claims.
2 Try to get as much information you can from the police and witnesses
beacuse It seems you need to prove it wasnt your fault also look at road conditions for example if there is ice or snow on that day that would make him more at fault.
3 For Alberta most lawyers have 2 YEARS to fill for accidents and they all wait that till the last minute to fill so dont worry.
4 In your statment of Claim ( What when where and how much your being sued for) the other lawyer will claim everything under the sun and you will see esaily $50 000 and up BUT they probly will never get that much so dont get depresed.

Desudesu be happy you can walk away from it and spend some time with family

  35. if you had insurance (which i assume is mandatory on your country) the insurance covers everything, unless you were under the influence or somethings like that but i assume not, even if they dont want to settle and it goes to trial, you dont even have to go (again, depends on the country), your insurance takes care of all.
Something i dont like about USA is that the insurance can go up if you crash, even if it isnt your fault... i hate that, it's the same as the medical insurance going up for being sick...
In any case, dont worry, and like someone said, keep your story straight, dont lie but dont give them anything they dont need, and talk with your insurance first.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Sorry to hear about your accident but VERY glad to hear that you are ok. From the amount of damage you describe to both your car and the bike I am also glad (surprised) to hear that the biker came out of it with only a broken leg. He could have easily lost his life.

Don't feel bad about making a post like this here, it is good for you to vent about this sort of thing, and we are here to support you if you need it.

  37. Setebos is right in what he said & many of the posters .. & thank god that such accident resulted only a broken leg for the biker ... not broken rips or skull or spinal .. belive me it's not a serious injury.... so cheer up desudesu & knockout the depression & pls forgive my poor english

  39. Hope everything works out, dd. My dad was in a similar car accident when I was little, but nothing serious came out of it thankfully. I think we can all agree that you're a good person and that you shouldn't blame yourself.

  40. Well talk with your insurance company and find out what you may have to deal with best-case and worst-case so you'll be prepared. Glad you're ok. Hope things turn out well.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Its good that you are ok, I wont say dont worry, but take heart what will be will be. Be glad it was not a serious injury and that you were reletavely unhurt. About the accident, while I cant say I know tha specifics, a bike hitting you from behind is classified as not your fault, motor bike ridaers are generally quite reckless in my experience, but legally as 4 wheelers have more weight/ danger involved it usually likes on the car drivers head, but from what you said it seems that the biker was at fault solely because you were hit in the back. Try not to beat yourself up it happens.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Good luck. The way you describe it, it doesn't sound like it's your fault, though it's technically from the horse's mouth. Were there any third party witnesses?

I got the short end of the stick a few years back in a four-car accident. My car and the one in front had almost no damage other than very minor scratches to the paint and small dents, but the two behind us were totaled. The officer tried to push the blame on me, and ditto for the trash in the car behind me. Luckily, it was overturned in court due to the officer falsifying information on the weather and road conditions, as well as my having proof that it was the car behind that pushed me into the car in front (I almost did hit the car in front, but braked in time, but the cars behind didn't brake). They didn't address whether I had instigated the accident by braking so suddenly or not, truth be told.

The officer tried to pin the blame on me. I think it was because I was Asian (preconceptions), I had the best/newest car, and I was driving an import. Just hindsight and speculation at play.

  43. teenage drink and drive...hopefully you have a good insurance

  44. ah, i know the feeling of needing to talk about these things (which i'm sure most people do). and this is technically your blog, so it's fine to write whatever the hell you please

but anyways, as long as your careful and have a bit of luck, things should turn out fine for you

    ReplyDelete
  45. "Came out of nowhere" means you weren't watching whatever direction it was he came from. Feel for you man, everyone takes their eyes off the road for a second now and then when they know they're not supposed to and most of the time you get away with it. In your case, you looked back and someone was there.

Best of luck with the nerves and the insurance claims. Insurance sucks dracula penis.

    ReplyDelete
  46. I've been in the bikers position. It is a painful lesson. No, I wasn't on drugs or drinking or being reckless. Bikes are very hard to see, especially for cars making a turn and the sun is behind a biker. That is what happened to me, the car made a legal left turn but didn't see me because of the sun and I slammed into him. Luckily on my part I had kind of anticipated it and slowed down so all the damage was to the motorcycle and not me, I was just really really really really sore for the next several weeks.

Shit happens, doesn't automatically mean either was at fault or the biker was on drugs or being stupid (although it full well could be a possibility). As others have said, cars and stuff can be replaced, even though you are shaken up, glad you are alive and well.

    ReplyDelete
  47. it's not entirely your fault, I'm glad you're OK

    you have my blessing

  48. apparently my nan was in a similar accident about 40 years ago; small country lines, as she pulled out, round came a motorbike doing over twice the speed limit. Before mobile phones, but my grandad found her fairly soon anyway (expecting her home or something; knew the route she'd take), he was first to notice that the motorcyclist was dead :/
Everyone, involved or otherwise, assured her that it wasn't her fault (and it wasnt; you can't speed on these lanes; no visibilty at junctions), but she still never quite recovered. I only found out about this the other week; I had noticed she was a kinda nervous driver. apparently that's why.

anyway, don't blame yourself; if they were speeding, there's probably nothing much wrong with what you did; try not to get worked up about it.

they may seem kinda useless on the long straights, but around junctions, speed limits tend to be what they are for a reason.

  49. feel sorry 4 your accident dude.

it just remind my self that road is dangerous.

well, you're lucky enough. it's not you that break, just the vehicle and the other guy. just imagine of what will happen if the accident happened on another part of your sedan. It might kill you. So, be thank full and keep your composure for facing the police.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Anon has probably said the most sensible thing so far, talk to your insurance company and find out the best way to solve this. Be firm and stick to the facts.

You do have one very important thing in your favour, you have a witness that was riding with you in the car, he can confirm what happened.

Best of luck, and don't worry too much about it, accidents DO happen.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Just chills, everything will be fine, if you don't do anything wrong, there's no freaky way you have to pay or get arrested.
Try to talk as less as possible and stay firm that you are not at fault. Call your lawyer if you have one.

Last time I was involved in accident too, broke my arm and have a large scar on my face. The one hit me however broke his arm and leg and I have to drag him out of his car for his sake. I was plan to hit him for the pains and angers but unable to do when I saw he cried in pain. I end up called for help from the locals. The most funny when I saved his sorry ass and yet the police think that I am at fault and try to getting me a ransom.

  52. Holy jesus desu! thats insane! Its really scary to be in an accident isnt it? I feel your pain man, you should try and relax go to bed early and just knock on wood as much as you can!
Power to you desu! and Im glad your ok!

    ReplyDelete
  53. Wow, that sucks. They're right, as long as no one's dead and you weren't drunk, they cops'll probably just let your insurance companies deal with that. Its what you pay them for. And you're right, talk to friend or family if your able (I can't talk to mine in a crisis, thy just like to place blame and make things worse). Don't go to a psychiatrist, they just mess you up worse so you'll have to keep coming back (Shrinks threat your mind kinda like the way an auto mechanic treats your car).

    ReplyDelete
  54. Hey DesuDesu, shouldn't be too bad with insurance. Just don't admit to guild(dunno if you already did to the cops), and probably get legal counsel just to be safe. They are pros at it, and if you don't have a lawyer on your side you could get screwed. Again, don't know how serious the charges are or what you already said, but it's stacked against people who don't use lawyers.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Something I forgot to mention...part of the reason my mother was blamed was so they could fine SOMEONE for the accident, as the old lady had had a heart attack right after she turned, leading to the accident I mentioned.

And on the note of motorcyclists getting injured, one of my teachers in high school was legally blind from damage he sustained in a motorcycle accident (everything else is fine, that's his only permanent handicap), so just getting a broken leg is nothing compared to the near-loss of your sight for the rest of your life.

  58. incautious, i'm not talking just for keep ur morale up, in my city a bikers die for have passed a stop signal withopus stoping, just before a roundabout,so i don't care just about respect signals, i also try to look if other peole look for them, and in the case of bikers is a bet.
Well, at cost to be harsh, i must say this bikers was dangerous, i think how bad the car driver can feel now, and he got no fault.<----think about it

  60. Shit man, that sucks. My dad and sister actually experienced a similar accident, except that it was a Semi instead of a bike. Their car span out into traffic, but somehow no one was seriously injured (my sister got a small bruise on her thigh). If their case is any indication the shock of it should wear off eventually, if not many colleges and universities (if I recall correctly, you are a student, right?) have a counselor you can speak to free of charge to help you through it.

  63. Get a lawyer, and consult with them. Start making plans, and the head start will be nice if the police determine you were at fault. Better spend a little now (haha... lawyers will take payments in souls I hear) and see what the lawyer thinks, before shit happens, and if nothing happens, then all the better.

  64. Don't worry buddy, as long as there are cars, there will always be accidents. And hey, even if it was your fault, the guy will heal, you'll find the money eventually (even though it might take a while- just be patient) and then everything will be OK. Hopefully the guy's not head of the Italian mafia or something like that. *knocks on wood* Shit, sorry ._."

Had a talk with my parents, will have the insurance guy brief me through what's gonna happen to me later today. Can't wait to get over with this.

I was pretty sure it wasn't my fault, but I didn't blame anyone when making the police report, and stayed as neutral as I could (I didn't write down the bike's plate number, I was just so nervous when it all happened, I don't know what to do, so I couldn't tell the officer the bike's plate number).

  82. I'll see your traffic accident and raise you a couple grande mal seizures.
That's right epilepsy. A seizure can happen completely at random (extra fun when you're riding a bicycle when one hits) for about 15 minutes you have no memory of anything and you pretty much kick your own ass!
And then you get to 'come to' in the hospital for a couple days of tests. You name it, it's been done to me. And even better, no one (myself included) has been able to figure out how to control it.
You have my sympathy but take my word for it, things can be worse.

    ReplyDelete
  83. Dr_Demento: I know what it's like to be epileptic. My little sister has it =(

    ReplyDelete
  84. Not that I expect you'll read through 81 comments, get to this one, and find comfort (or even read it at all). Nor that I believe I have anything profound, or even really noteworthy to say, but...

It's okay to be scared by something like this. It's okay for it to freak you out, and cause you stress and heartache later. In fact, as much as you probably couldn't care less to hear it, it'll be a character-building experience for you. Whether you're at fault, or not. Whether you regret it or not, you'll be changed by the experience. Maybe you'll become a more cautious driver. Or a more aggressive one. Or maybe you'll give up on driving altogether. Maybe you'll realize bikers are the bane of the roadway. Whatever happens, you *will* be changed from this experience, and I, for one, hope you're able to make something positive out of it. And then maybe you can get back to translating some more loli rape manga. You know, if you feel up to it and whatnot.

  88. Daamit man, you're scaring me too. I dont want to lose you to the law and you being broke or having to sell your computer or someshit with this ;_; I love to you and that biker, hopefully reasonable compensation and misunderstanding will be cleared up quickly without you resorting to multiple court hearings or something worse.

    ReplyDelete
  89. Desu, I've been in a similar circumstance, and all I can say is talk to any witnesses you can. Was this a right turn that you were making, or a left? If it was a left, and he hit you hard enough to screw up the wheel, then he had to have been either tailgating or not paying attention to you as you made the turn. If it was a right, did he hit you while the turn was taking place? And was it a wide right if it was?

No matter how I turn this over in my head, I can't see how you'd have been at fault with this, unless you ignored sign/light rules when you made the turn, or if you weren't sober.

I know how shitty you feel, as I got into an accident earlier this year under somewhat similar circumstances, and I'll give you advice that was given to me by someone present at my accident: just keep breathing, and do what you can to keep calm. Remember everything you can, and make sure your friend can remember everything he can. Details about the intersection, sounds, other lights, anything.

    ReplyDelete
  90. Sorry to hear about this, desu. The only advice I have is listen to what most of the others have said... find out best/worst case scenario from your insurance company and/or the police, consult a lawyer, and just be around family for awhile until everything is settled and you've calmed down.

I hope things turn out well for you, and that things go your way.

    ReplyDelete
  91. There's always room for a bit of comedy, especially since no one was fatally injured, and no one we care about (desudesu or his friend) sustained serious physical injury.

3d0xp0xy was kinda right, the comments were getting redundant. And don't tell me you aren't curious if his sister is hot? Unless she's a minor, and then that would just be creepy to ask about.

Name is in reference to asshole on bike and police, not you. Also, I'll probably come off as an asshole with the PTSD thing, but I shouldn't mainly because I am speaking from personal experience.

PTSD fucking sucks, but trust me, if you can survive the first half year it pretty much fades out as long as you don't have a TBI to perpetuate it(you don't), and critically, don't give it your full attention. Take a metaphor from schizophrenia: the more you listen to the voices, the louder they get.

Also, it isn't PTSD if it only happens for a week to a month. Get worried after two months.

    ReplyDelete
  99. This sort of things happen. You don't have to feel guilty, bikers are mad, they think they could go almost anywhere and do whatever they want just because they're on a bike.I don't know how your country's laws work( I'm Italian and my english is demostrating this XD)but I think that in the end with the witness of your friends and the support of your family everything will go fine. You have all my best wishes and I suppose you're a good person and cops will notice it.

  100. shit happens, don't think to much of it, yup i also freak out when i had my first incident(same like u had, a fuckin motorcycle came out of the blue and hit my right side), the point is don't let it get to you, they don't arrest people for inccident, might get a fine though but shouldn't be on a crazy amount, just hang in there man :D

    ReplyDelete
  101. Hopefully everything works out at the end.

I hope that you lied in the police report though and twisted it to be more favorable to you. When my mother was in a rather serious accident, the police took issue with her going 5 miles over the speed limit and completely ignored the outrageous speed of the woman who managed to flip over my mom's minivan and made it spin into a lamppost, rendering the minivan no longer fit for use or even repair.

Sometimes, honesty ends up punching you in the face.

    ReplyDelete
  102. Glad to hear you got out of the accident safely.
Don't worry too much about the repercussions, you have a good support network.
Life will move on, good luck!

    ReplyDelete
  103. Judging from where you say you got hit, and the damage you describe to your car, its the bikers fault. Legally, its probably going to be yours. If you got a citation, its yours. Assuming you were not intoxicated, you are looking at a fine and some points on your license (assuming you are in the USA).

If you are in the USA, your biggest concern is the forthcoming lawsuit.
If you got a citation, get a lawyer and fight it. Lawyers are not cheap, good lawyers even less so. Contact your insurance agency and see if they will help defer the cost. If you didn't get a citation, go over your auto insurance policy and see what it covers, and what your deductible is. Make sure you have the cash to cover that deductible.

I'm not a lawyer, just somebody who was a too influenced by Speed Racer as a child. I've spent waaaay to much time and money in courtrooms in my life.

  111. i dont know how it happen but what u should do is to contact the biker(i assume u did all the required procedures of what to do when u r involved in a accident) if the matter isnt really going yr way u know what i mean.Try to avoid getting into heated confrontation if u meet the poor chap. You doesnt want this accident to happen same as the other guy.Settle the matter amicably avoid going legal it waste lots of time.

    ReplyDelete
  112. It's been said countless times already but yeah, shit does happen, but 'm sure this won't escalate as high as you might think, it's not like you had a collision head on, or where drunk ATM, but probably you'll both be responsible for the accident (50/50), or the most of the fault will fall on you, paying the guy's health care bill might be added, they might also make you replace his bike too. If it comes to that I might suggest making a donation drive, I'm sure every one will chip in (I mean, come on, life would a dud if I don't get my Desudesu releases ;) ) Whatever happens I'm sure you'll pull trough.

    Oh shitfuck

Hope everything goes alright bro. From what you've said in California (Where I live) it'd be the biker's fault, but I know you don't live here so I hope it ends up alright.

    ReplyDelete
  115. Well, speaking as one a little more experienced in car crashes (one every five years, regular (ó_ò) I think that in the circumstances you can consider yourself somewhat lucky, for two reasons:
    1) that your first car accident has been one where you are basically blameless, so that the emotional scars will heal faster once you rationalize that there wasn't much you could realistically do to avoid the prang;
    2) that you were driving a sedan, if you had been in another type of car the biker would have impacted head-on with the roof instead of sliding over the trunk, and it wouldn't have ended this well for him.

All the advice provided in the previous comments is valid, if I may add something your friend should focus his testimony on the fact that you signaled your intention to turn well in advance, as this may reduce how much of the blame you get. Unfortunately it likely won't be zero, as lately insurers like to pin a small percentage even on an innocent driver so that they can hike the premium on both vehicles.

I hope things turn out well for you, and in the meantime maybe you can draw a little consolation from the fact that things could have turned out much worse.

    ReplyDelete
  116. Ah, and by the way last I checked the title said "DesuDesu's Weblog", not "DesuDesu's Translations", so you there's nothing barring you from posting whatever the hell you like.

  117. Sorry to hear about your accident. Glad you are well and not Fucked Up physically from the crash. Take care and I hope the best for you.

    ReplyDelete
  118. Hang in there and hopefully things turn out okay. Given the police seemed to feel you were to blame and it was a serious accident it really would be a good idea to get a lawyer. It will probably won't be cheap but if they can reduce any charges or plea things down it will save you trouble and money in the long run.
In some states if the police have to show up to an accident they need to charge someone, so depending on where you are it may not be possible to settle out of court.

    Good luck

    ReplyDelete
  119. dont worry about it too much
your insurance is gonna go up by a lot or the cyclist might sue you for some dumb shit
plus his insurance will probably cover for the damages
as long u didnt do a hit and run then youre cool
plus no one got seriously injured so be happy

  122. @DesuDesu: Your imouto has my sympathies. The worst part is there is no warning, one moment everything is normal, the next you 'come to' in either an ambulance or the emergency room.
At least I don't have nightmares when asleep.
But please, get back to the translations!

    ReplyDelete
  123. If you do have the misfortune of being questioned by the police, and you are located in the United States, keep your story consistent and ask for legal counsel, and don't show agitation. The opposite of these are considered signs of guilty-ness.

Also, get back to driving immediately. The worst thing one can do is cease driving for a long period after a collision. I've heard of people that stopped driving altogether because they didn't get back into it after a collision. They became anxious as hell behind a wheel. Drive with someone else if necessary, but get back to it.

You have affected many people, many you don't know, many you don't even WANT to know, and by doing something small, and being very good at it. I hope you continue to do so.

I thoroughly enjoyed Custom Zombie, by the way.

@desudesu: I am sorry to hear that. I have seen this happen before and if anyone ever went to college then they should have at least seen it once. I used to bike quite often and still do on occasion. I know for a fact the majority of bikers have no clue what the hell they are doing, if he/she was on the sidewalk then you should not be liable at all as in case of where you might live it is illegal to be on the sidewalk and should be obeying traffic. I find it hard to believe that it is your fault desu and if it does happen as a worst case scenario, I would seriously call into question this. Good luck with your endeavors and I think I can beat you in magic.

  132. Glad to hear that things are turning out fairly well so far. You're by far my favorite h-manga/h-doujinshi scanlator, and the only one that I am cognizant of as an actual human being, since you use your blog to tell us about what is happening to you and what is amusing you of late.

Since hotness is difficult to judge as a sibling, how about this, is your sister cute?

    ReplyDelete
  133. You must live in a pretty decent country and/or a very cautious driver to only experience one major accident in your four years of driving. From where I'm from currently, road accidents are considered extremely common. I've been out like three times in the past week, every single time I've witnessed a near fatal casualty due to reckless driving (considered norm here) and poor human judgment. First time I was completely shocked, traumatized but eventually got used to it, although it would be different to be involved in one rather than just a bystander.

Judging siblings are impossible unless its a comparison.

  140. Lot of really ignorant comments here. In my part of the world riders are more law-abiding, on average, than car occupants (calling them "drivers" would be giving them too much credit).

Desu, I like your work, I'm glad you're OK, and I'm even more glad you didn't kill the guy, assuming the cop is right about you being at fault. Just be glad nobody was killed - that IS the main thing - you don't want that on your conscience, ever. Just ask the lady who caused the last crash scene I was at. Her biker was lying dead in front of her hood, with her daughters crying themselves senseless and trying to cover him with some clothes or something.
