The scenario is something usual found in mangas where boy likes girl, boy to shy to confess to girl, boy losses girl to another guy, girl breaks up with guy,...then years later..., boy finds out that the girl also likes him years agon but now she's either married to another guy, dead, or something else.
ReplyDeleteI don't understand why these sort of guys don't just confess in the first place. The worst thing that could happen is she doesn't feel the same way about you and you stop being friends. After all, nothing ventured nothing gained.
Well, if I was the guy, and the girl keep telling me that I'm her "best friend", I would certainly get the wrong message and not confess at all. After all, we all know what a "best friend" means, and confessing will probably end like like son of spanky :(

ReplyDeleteBut then I sucked it up. Just long enough to get brutally shot down over and over again. The upside? I'm now a battle-scarred rejection veteran who can take even some of the more malicious put-downs in stride.
It still sucks to hear "no, I'm dating someone else" or "no, I don't want to ruin our friendship" (as if telling me about all the other guys you bang wasn't already doing that), but it helped with my coping skills a lot. It also lets me cut through the BS a lot faster when I can be up front with it, instead of pussy footing around like a typical nice guy. (Besides, prolong the big moment runs the risk of making you look like a creep who only befriended her to get into her pants, slowly biding his time until she's at her most vulnerable.) I still try to be considerate and all that good stuff, but I don't let it make me a doormat anymore, you know?

Might be a little easier to take the story seriously, if it was at all a common practice at funerals to read the diary of the deceased out loud to everyone in attendance, much less a years old entry about a married woman's high school unrequited love. An unrequited infatuation that she obviously got over, while he remained stuck in the same mindset he had back in high school.
