It's not really the responsibility of anyone to learn another person's beliefs. It is definitely an obligation to be courteous and to respect the beliefs, but people shouldn't be faulted for not knowing what those beliefs entail (the rules and etcetera).
ReplyDeleteThough the comic above is um... funny, it's not entirely the fault of the shopper for not realizing (or in her case, forgetting) the "no pork rule". The cashier should have kindly reminded the shopper of the background of her (the cashier's) beliefs.

the shopper is clearly someone who always forget stuffs, a.k.a dojikko who forgot 2 important things in a day: pig meat is called pork, and malaysia has shitload of sensitivity issue when it involves religion or races.

ReplyDeleteOn that note, the Malay discussion is also bull. There are special people in Malaysian stores who handle the pork at the cashier. The shopper girl just didn't get help from one of them for some reason.
